On May 8, 2025, Algerian ice hockey will hit a major milestone: the first-ever Coupe d’Algérie will be played in Montréal, with Fennecs HC taking on Corsaires HC at Sportplexe Pierrefonds. This game is more than just a first – it’s the next step in Algeria’s journey toward establishing a true national hockey identity.

Why Canada?

Although Algeria currently has two small rinks, the country lacks a full-size arena suitable for competitive play. Until that changes, our passionate diaspora continues to carry the torch. Montréal – with its deep hockey roots and large Algerian community – offers the perfect setting for this historic moment.

The Road So Far

When we launched Corsaires HC in 2016, it was the first Algerian ice hockey club ever created. What followed was beyond anything we expected. The Corsaires jersey now hangs in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, a testament to how far we’ve come.

The creation of the Coupe d’Algérie is more than symbolic. It lays the groundwork for a domestic league– something we are actively building toward. Every training camp, exhibition game, and youth program brings us closer to our goal: a functioning ice hockey league in Algeria in the not-so-distant future.

Building the Future

We are fully committed to developing ice hockey in Algeria – not just for the elite, but for every young player who dreams of skating for their country. With continued support from the global hockey community, a clear roadmap, and the determination of our athletes and volunteers, that dream is within reach.

If you’re in Montréal, join us and witness a piece of history on May 8 at 7 PM. If not, share our story, support our mission, and follow our progress. We’re building something lasting – for Algeria, and for hockey fans everywhere.
